Proposal, November 8, 2000.
About the Joint FL/AA Degree Program
This joint
Program was developed to enable DLFLC students to complete their
general education degree through Foothill College’s online
program. To
satisfy the general education requirements for an Associate of Arts in
Foreign Language degree (AA/FL), DLIFLC students must complete at least
28 semester units from the following subject areas: Communication,
Critical Thinking, Natural Science, Humanities, Social Science,
Technology, Area Studies, Physical Education, and Mathematics.
DLIFLC does not teach all the required general education courses
a student needs to receive an AA/FL degree. Currently, many students who
enroll in the AA/FL degree program relocate and do not complete their
courses with MPC, not finishing their AA/FL degree.
This
collaboration allows DLIFLC students to earn an AA/FL degree or
certificate by completing the required foreign language courses through
DLIFLC, and the general education course requirements, that DLIFLC does
not offer, entirely online, through Foothill College.
Through
this joint program, DLIFLC students can enroll in online courses offered
by Foothill College following the procedures outlined for all students.
Foothill courses are offered in sequence, following a quarterly
calendar: Three 12-week quarters and one six-week intensive summer term.
This
Program does not preclude DLIFLC from accepting credits earned
from other institutions of higher education or through the Alternative
Methods for Earning College Credit section of the DLIFLC Associate of
Arts in Foreign Language Degree Requirements document.
