Lesson 4: The Landscape of Children's Books

the Landscape of Children's Books

Explore:

The activity below is designed to help you further explore the topic of children's literature genres. It is an optional activity; it is not required or graded.

Activity 1: Genre Giants:Archive Database (AD)

As you explore bookstores and libraries, you'll find what we can call "Genre Giants," those books which are exemplars of all that is great and good in a particular genre.  For example, Shel Silverstein's poetry books exemplify the best qualities in poetry for children.  Or any of the Dorling Kindersley (DK) books are superlative examples of effective informational book design. When you find a Genre Giant, add it to our Archive Database using the live link below.

Activity 2: Genre Across the Media:AD

Once you find books, movies, videos, TV shows, games or other media related to various genres, post them to the Archive Database. Note that this page will open in a new window which you will close when finished to return to the class pages.
